The vessels before you are based on a new path with my work. I have been encouraging myself to investigate the sculptural aspect of clay and pattern in a fashion where I am able to push the limits of symmetry, pattern, and weight distribution. I have been exploring the relationship of pattern and connecting it with a style reminiscent of Art Deco. My exploration of pattern started in printmaking and continued to my work in graphic design and repetitive work in typography. Gathering my designs from everyday items, fabric, fashion, design and how those around me dress, I appreciate the depth in layered pattern we normally take for granted. The patterns we surround ourselves with become a part of our personality. With the handing down of various items and traditions we pattern our lives from those before us. Truly looking into what pattern holds and its influence fascinates me.
