Artist Statement

Linda Folden was born in Macau and raised in Hong Kong. She was greatly influenced by traditional Chinese culture and her love of sketching and colorings. Linda took many art classes & received a degree in Interior Design from the University of Minnesota in Mankato and has lived in the United States for many years.

She worked in the corporate world for 30 years and decided to retire shortly after her grandchildren were born. Looking for new hobbies and activities, she took narrative sculpture and ceramic classes at the Des Moines Art Center, which re-awakened her love of creating and launched her into a second calling. Today her works have been shown in juried exhibits and in a number of galleries and gift shops all across Iowa including Des Moines, Ames, Iowa City, Perry, Clear Lake, Marshalltown, Greenfield, Fairfield and Steamboat Springs & Westminster, Colorado.

Drawing inspiration from her life experiences…each piece reflects her thoughts, feelings, reflections, and emotions. From functional pieces with hand carved motifs to sculptures, each piece highlights the memories, and emotions that many people have experienced. Using pinch pot, coil, slab built, carving and cutting techniques, she hand creates each piece while employing various glazes, stains, and oxides to enhance each timeless work of art.
