Fused glass represents s magical canvas of light for me. The richness, luminescence and depth of layered glass allow me to express my creativity in its purest form.
With a painter as a mother, I was brought up living and breathing color. With a father as a toolmaker, I learned a love of metal and how to make things. This combination led to art school where I explored and experimented with a variety of mediums. My search for the “perfect” melding of color, material and line ended with the discovery of warm glass. I approach each design as if it were a painting on canvas overlapping colors to achieve a multitude of hues, shapes and patterns. This imbues my work with the subtlety and movement often associated with water color while possessing the richness and depth that is only possible with glass.
Simply put, glass is the richest drawing pad I’ve ever experienced. It requires designing and thinking from the bottom up; with so many options for color and patters; I’m never bored. I earned my BFA degree in drawing at Cleveland Institute of Art and the University of Michigan. Since then, I have maintained a studio in the Detroit area. I have 3 twenty-something children, a patient husband and an Airedale. Doing what I love day in and day out is a dream come true.
