Anna will be demonstrating her unique stratograph mono printing technique using a small printing press and oil based ink. This is a HANDS ON demo where guests are encouraged to participate! This is going to FUNNNNN!
What to Bring:
***Not required for participation but will make the demo more fun!***
Here is an example of one of Anna's gorgeous stratograph creations:
Anna's details description of the Stratograph Monoprint Process:
Stratograph (or pressure printing) is a unique process that combines the versatility of mono print with the structure of a woodcut and characteristics of a rubbing. It can be done using a press or entirely by hand offering both refined and rustic results. I enjoy using this technique since it is a contrast to the permanent marks made with an etched plate. It also gives me the opportunity to merge the intimate quality of familiar plants with a larger narrative, joining near and far elements, and the present time with the past.
To create an image I start with a layer of ink on a smooth surface. The paper to be printed is laid directly on the ink. On top of the paper I place materials, such as leaves and a silhouette cutout. Over this I position a stiff board. The stack is pressed with limited pressure for the first impression, resulting in dark marks where there is the greatest thickness of materials. A second impression can be made on another piece of paper by increasing pressure lifting the remaining ink. This impression is a tonal reverse from the first run. The lightest tones are made from the areas of the heaviest removal of ink on the initial impression. The darkest tones are the lightest areas of the first pass.

]]>Come Meet the Artist during the Downtown Iowa City Retail Open House!
December 1st, 1PM. Retail Open House begins at 10AM.
]]>Playing his holiday hits alongside the country hits of his career, the show has something for everyone. His critically-acclaimed holiday release Noel included five original and five classic songs and a slight dose of irreverence. Sandwiched between “Away in a Manger” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Santa’s Gone Hollywood” is an equal opportunity offender for everything good and pure about jolly ol’ Saint Nick. He supported the album with a Christmas tour, which is now an annual event.
A country music hit-maker, Phil Vassar is a piano-pounding powerhouse on stage. One of a handful of musicians to have multiple hits as a songwriter and as an artist, Vassar has 10 Number 1s, 15 Top 10s, and 26 TOP 40s. Top songs include “Just Another Day in Paradise,” “Carlene,” “Six Pack Summer,” & “My Next Thirty Years” (Tim McGraw),” Right on the Money” (Alan Jackson), “Bye-Bye” (Jodee Messina) and many more. American Soul is Phil’s ninth album. He also recently launched “Songs from the Cellar” a wine-infused musical conversation airing across the US and Europe.
No stranger to a good time, Vassar makes sure with every performance that his fans feel exactly the same way. Years of playing clubs, and even owning his own nightspot at one point, helped Phil cultivate the easygoing, fun-loving manner he displays onstage and the infectious energy that infuses every single show he does. “I’ve always prided myself on writing a lot of different types of songs, while some people may like to play it safe, I prefer diversity. So it’s about new energy and doing different things, getting away from the old ways and starting fresh.”
]]> Born in Belgium to a family of artists, Hilde DeBruyne possesses the innate ability to transform clay into timeless works of art. She studied Art History and Archeology at the University of Ghent. It became her passion.
Her rather abstract clay works reflect nature and the authenticity of the cycle of life. Fragments of the feminine form emerge inspired by the simple and organic features of rock formations, pebbles, and weathered wood.
Her artwork has been in public and private collections and international exhibits.
She also designs artwork to be executed in metal or bronze.
Hilde lives with her family in rural Iowa, USA
